Shoemoney Wins

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Well yesterday I did something I promised myself I wouldn’t do. I missed a blog posting. Now this happened for a number of reasons. The first was I did a very silly thing; I removed the partition on my computer on which I had Linux installed. Now this wouldn’t have been so bad had I remembered the boot loader was also on this partition. This meant that on restart I was treated to a lovely black screen and not beautiful windows as I expected. A slight amount of panic then occurred before the calm headed clog took over and a solution was found. The second main reason was my inability to say no to going to the pub, seven hours later and I was in no fit state to make any kind of post.

So today is a new day and although slightly hung-over still I have some interesting statistics from the commenting experiment for you. As you probably know by now my goal was to get into the top commentators spot on several of the larger blogs in the make money online niche and see how much traffic if any I would get. Here are the results.

Shoemoney Wins

As you can see shoe money wins hands down with number of visits with a grand total of sixty. I’m also quite impressed that the average time on site was thirty seconds. This means that people are reading at least some of what we have to write. Now as I keep promising I am planning something very interesting in the next few days, a real money making technique. I don’t want and will not have an income report for May with no income in it.

1st of the month- the big one!

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Well yesterday was the first of the month so it was time to read how much money these big blogs make such as John Chow, god he’s got it good, even though he had his worst financial month in the year to date, he still scrapped 29K! I need to get some of that! As the actress said to the bishop. Anywho, What I needed to do was to get a comment near the top on this blog entry as this article will get read by many people, and where did I get mine? Well around 20th, so I guessed I messed up. It’s hard, working all day, coming home to comment and making a post every night in between drinking. Make note, if a post is made late at night you may need to excuse my rambles ;-) There has got to be easier ways to get hits…

Anywho, hits for yesterday, 31, that’s the same amount of people who file for bankruptcy in Phoenix every day, hmm… don’t worry, I have many tricks up my sleeve, ’til next time.

The commenting experiment.

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Well it’s now been almost a week since I started commenting on some of the big blogs and it’s definably starting to pay off. We received 47 unique hits yesterday alone and our Google search box even made me my first few pennies from this blog. Now I know 47 hits a day isn’t enough to start making any real money from this blog. I have other sites which are pulling in a constant 200 uniques a day and that’s only enough to make around $200 dollars in your American money a month, but it is as they say a start.

I also received a comment from a guy called Pit from http://www.torrentomega.com/ recently about abandoning our commenting strategy and concentrating on search engine optimisation (SEO). Now I know a little bit about SEO, and that one little bit I do know is that getting links to your site is the most important way to rank for any keyword. Splice in a little relevant anchor text and you’re half way to topping the mighty Google. Now I know what your all thinking, commenting on blogs is worthless as the links are all no-follow. Well yes this is true, however the links in the top commenting section are not no follow and will give me the lovely Google page rank juice I’m after. How can I be so confident these links are not no follow I hear you ask. Well using the wonderful firefox browser and a clever little plug in I see this.

No Follow

Apologies for the Perez Hilton type scribbles but It gets my point across. I will be making a proper blog post about this plug in tomorrow, if you’re interested. Why a different post? Well it’s all about the SEO ;)

Well now I feel stupid.

Now as you may or may not know I am a programmer by trade, and yet I have made one of the most fundamental flaws you could possibly make when starting a community driven website like this. I forgot to activate the bloody commenting plug-in. This meant that whilst I was sitting here feeling lonely and unloved by people who had read my little blog so far. It would appear you guys were actually trying to pass comment. Thanks go out to the University Kid and Matt from www.theonlymp.com for emailing me and letting me know. We can only assume that now the commenting feature is working we will be inundated by fabulously intellectual, sophisticated and witty comments from our readers.

The commenting experiment is working well and yesterday we received our highest amount of visitors so far. What I deem to be a hugely impressive, quite frankly awe-inspiring 27 visits. Ok I exaggerate, but we are seeing a daily increase and if this continues? Well surly it won’t take long till we’re up there with the likes of Tyler or indeed the infamous cow. I can only put this insurgence of traffic down to the fact that we are on the top commenter list on John Chow, Shoemoney and Tyler Cruz with only The Rating Blog being seemingly impossible to break into. Damn the people there have a lot to say. How they have the time to post all these comments I don’t know. I’m starting to think Alan maybe either A) employing them or B) impersonating commentators. Not that I would want to stir up any controversy by saying such things. I do find it just a little odd that the majority of the top commenter’s don’t have a website of their own. You don’t see that many other big blogs now do you?

Day 4 of the big commenting experiment

Monday, April 28th, 2008

We have broken the great 50 unique hits! Slightly misleading, we have in total surpassed the magic 50, so far today we have only got 14. Probably minus 2 as I have been on the site from a couple of places, ah well, Rome wasn’t built in a day- although it looks like they could have spent more time on it ;-) Joke… I love Rome.

Anyway, looking at the referrals makes me wonder how we managed to get some hits, our best referral is from a website called graphics.com, god knows how, they are not part of this experiment and I can’t see a link on their site. Weird… However, they do stick around to read all the posts whoever they are, better than the John Chow people, they are off in a hurry! Guess I didn’t tell them how to make a million pounds by doing nothing so they left, darn.  I think although they might get me the most hits during the commenting stage, they won’t give me the quality that I am after, and that is readership! Tyler Cruz still gives us the longest average time on site with 1.16 although it doesn’t sound much there isn’t much on here to read yet ;-). Oh well, I am up on the top commenter’s board on a couple of sites so I guess I am working quite hard at this, we will have to see how good a tool this really is.

Speaking of tool ;-)

The great commenting experiment: Early observations

The great commenting experiment: Early observations

Day three of the great commenting experiment and we have seen a number of visits so far. Ok so far that number is quite small, and it’s already obvious that if I were to rely on just commenting on big blogs in order to get traffic, I will never be more than a tiny minnow in a very large pond. Luckily for me I am not a pony with just the one trick, and this is just the first experiment of many, I plan to make my mark in the blogosphere.

Interestingly enough I am getting more traffic and better readership from the smaller blogs, with Tyler Cruz providing not only the largest number of visitors so far but also those which stay around the longest. John Chow on the other hand has provided but one single visit and he didn’t even stay long enough for our header image to load. Based on the results so far I will be spending more time hunting for smaller blogs to comment on to see if this is a blogging trend!

I plan on keeping this experiment running for at least a week, I believe some of the poor traffic results so far could be because we have been commenting at the weekend which is traditionally a quieter time for all websites. Also I have yet to make the top commenter spot on any site other than Tyler’s which may also explain why we have received more hits from his bog than others. So for now the plan is to keep commenting, wait for the sun burn on my face to fade and have a nice old drink up to celebrate my flat mate’s birthday. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and happy clogging.

The great commenting experiment: Part I

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Friday launched the first part of clogmoneys great commenting experiment. The plan is simple, post as many well written thought provoking comments on other blogs in the make money online niche and get some free targeted traffic. Day one went well; we received twenty visits just from commenting on four large blogs. Ok so twenty visits isn’t very much, in fact if we’re being honest it’s f**k all, but hey it’s a start and who knows, one of those twenty one may just come back and visit again. Upon reflection I feel I can relate to this very famous quote to our experiment so far: What soberness conceals, Drunkenness reveals”. Yes I feel that quote ties in nicely.

Lazy,lazy,lazy polar bear

Now I know you’re all thinking, why the lazy polar bear and the only real answer I can give is why not? And that’s something you just can’t argue against. ( Think Lost ). Now I must end this post and start the commenting again. The goal for the weekend is to hit the top commentary list on one of the big blogs and see just how much that boosts traffic.. Come back again to see my findings.

PS. If you are reading this blog for the first time please leave me a comment, I’m lonely.

The clever clogs commentary- Its mind blog-gling!!

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I seem to spend my life reading people’s blogs on how they make money, it can’t be as simple as reviewing random places and random products can it? How the hell did they get the traffic in the first place? They can’t have written about nights at a restaurant since the start, not even their own mothers would read that, unless it was someone that wasn’t quite right in the head…

Anyway… So here it is, I am going to find out how it’s done (hopefully!!) I am going to complete a scientific experiment, well kinda, by carrying out different marketing tools weekly and recording how well each one does in terms of traffic increase as a result of my efforts- simple huh? This way I’m going to find out the most effective (non-violent) way to get traffic to a site and show you guys the results so everyone can do it, or give it a go anyway ;-)

I guess there are worse things to be tied to, i\'m sure there are better things though!

Part one of the clever clogs commentary is a nice simple one (obviously after clearing the first hurdle of actually making this blog); to go on four different major blogs for a week and leave the most amount of comments out of everyone on there for each one, just as well I like red bull huh? This way I will have loads of links on these already popular sites meaning, hopefully, loads of these blog readers will click through, read this, and come back to see my results, easy as an Essex girl (for those reading this from countries other than Blighty and don’t understand the reference, insert your own city for easy girls and it’s hilarious, trust me.) I might see how I can affect the tourist industry of Essex at the same time… Anyway I digress. Next time I post I will have results of part 1, come back to see them and I will let you know what part two entails. Until then, it’s time to blog off.
